In a competitive world, details matter.

The details can determine hundredths of seconds or points on a scorecard. They are the difference between being in the money or going home. They are the difference in a title.

Details matter in our horsemanship. In our feel. We spend countless hours honing these skills, learning about these skills.

WHAT ABOUT OUR MOVEMENT AS A RIDER?

I would challenge that we haven't spent a tenth of the amount of time on our movement as we have our horse's. Now for certain, we've been "coached" about not leaning or shoulders back or something else as our attention is then being turned back to the horse.

What would happen if time was spent outside of the saddle performing mindful movements? Sure, you may have a workout program. You may be lifting heavy or doing a lot of cardio. My guess is that you have your music going during this, and you are only focused on task completion. Did you stabilize the way you should correctly? What would happen if you turned the tunes off and went internal and really listened and felt how your body moved?

Close enough only counts In hand grenades and horse shoes.

We expect our horses not only to complete the task but to complete It In a correct manner. We expect them to stop on their hind ends or perform with a certain held frame.

What would happen to your riding If you took small, consistent time to move mindfully? To work on how your body moves?

Working on the neuromuscular control of your body, will help you ride better. When you work on that consistently in quiet moments it will translate into better mechanics when it is time in the arena.
