It seems to me that if you want to play the long game then you have to fall in love with COMPOUND INTEREST. Now there is not a whole lot that is fun and sexy about this. It doesn't matter whether you are talking about money, diet, or fitness. (Gasp! I mentioned the big three in one sentence!)
Compound interest is the addition of interest to the principal sum of a loan or deposit, or in other words, interest on interest. It is the result of reinvesting interest, rather than paying it out. -Wiki
So it seems to me that all of your goals for the long game hinge on compound interest. The game of compound interest is played in small wins. Are you reinvesting in yourself? Your goals? Your dreams?
Concentrating on the small wins leads to huge gains. However, you have to leave the big picture to take care of itself and concentrate on what is in your control. The small wins.
Every day presents itself with the opportunity to add to your interest. Every meal. Every workout.
Every day is a new game. Focus on what is in front of you that you can control? Can you move your body more to make your riding game better? Can you chose a healthier option when you go out to eat with friends? Believe me calories count! I often try to have them not count if I'm out with friends or in a different area code, but it never works! Calories are calories. Small changes in that area add up quicker than you think!!
Small steps equals forward motion.
No matter what your goals are for 2019 in any area of your life, look at the present. Look at the small wins you can add to your account. That interest will add up. I feel that will also keep the overwhelm and anxiety of you task down.
Good small steps start to add up and quickly. Sometimes they will not add up today or tomorrow. But in a month, you'll look back and see how far you've come. What about six months from now?
